Deep Rock Galactic / Co-op guide

Which Deep Rock game can your friends actually join?

Two Deep Rock games take a crew underground. One sends a lone dwarf. Match the invitation to the right game and storefront before anyone buys a copy.

Find your next decision

Deep Rock Galactic and Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core each support one to four players, including online co-op. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is a single-player game. These are three separate games. If a friend sends you an invitation, match the full title in their library first. For the original game, where each of you got your copy also determines whether you can join.

Get the name from the person sending the invite

Ask your friend to share the store page for the game they are about to launch. On Steam the original Deep Rock Galactic is app 548430. Survivor is 2321470, and Rogue Core is 2605790. You can see that number in the address after “app”. It stays useful when a chat app cuts off a long link preview just after the words Deep Rock Galactic.

The distinction matters this week. Ghost Ship released Update 3 for Rogue Core on November 4. If a friend wants to see what changed in that update, look for Rogue Core in your library. Downloading an update for the original Deep Rock Galactic would still leave you in a different game. If all the message says is “Deep Rock tonight,” check with the host before starting a download.

The original is the crew with a Scout and a Driller

From a first-person view, an armed miner faces another dwarf with a pickaxe beside a red-and-white robot in a gold-colored cave.
Deep Rock Galactic pairs first-person mining with team roles. A Scout and a Driller on the same mission are playing the original. Image: Ghost Ship Games / Coffee Stain Publishing, via Steam.

Deep Rock Galactic puts a group of miners into the same first-person mission. A Scout carries a flare gun and grappling hook. A Driller can cut through the cave wall. The Gunner and Engineer bring their own tools to the same team. If a friend wants you to light a cavern while they open a passage, this is the game they mean. You can go underground alone or bring up to three other players.

You can also recognize it on the store shelf. The original game’s Steam page lists editions with different packs of cosmetics. When somebody already owns its standard edition and somebody else is looking at the deluxe edition, both are looking at the same base game. Check the included items before getting more than you need for a friend’s invitation. A different edition of the original and a different Deep Rock game are two separate purchasing decisions.

Survivor gives one player the whole swarm

The camera looks down on a single dwarf firing into a mass of creatures in a blue-purple cavern, with a minimap and weapon icons at the edges.
Survivor shows the action from above. You direct one dwarf through the swarm while the weapons fire automatically. Image: Funday Games / Ghost Ship Publishing, via Steam.

In Survivor, you look down on the action. You steer one dwarf through the crowd, carve a route through rock and decide which upgrades to take while the weapons fire automatically. Funday Games identifies it as a single-player auto-shooter. A friend can recommend a weapon or compare how far their run went, but there is no second seat in that run.

This is the easiest mix-up if you have seen a clip with the sound off. A dwarf, a drop pod and a screenful of bugs could belong to either game. The overhead view and the Survivor subtitle are better clues. Steam also lists Remote Play on TV for Survivor. Seeing that label beside a single-player game gives you a way to play on another screen, without adding another player. If the aim is something to play on your own between group nights, Survivor answers that brief. If the aim is joining the team already waiting, ask them for their original or Rogue Core link.

Rogue Core is the crew building a run as it goes

Six upgrade choices span the screen in Rogue Core, with a claimed card near the middle and the player’s equipment along the bottom.
Rogue Core lets the crew shape a run through its upgrade choices. These choices belong to the separate Reclaimer game. Image: Ghost Ship Games / Ghost Ship Publishing and Coffee Stain Publishing, via Steam.

The playable team in Rogue Core is called the Reclaimers. They enter lost dig sites with a starting loadout and find weapons and temporary upgrades during the mission. There are also unlocks between runs. A friend talking about the upgrades the group took on its last descent, or inviting you aboard the Ramrod, has given you firmer clues than a screenshot of another dwarf with a gun.

Ghost Ship describes Rogue Core as a standalone title. Steam’s US English listing showed it in Early Access on November 5, with an Early Access start date of May 20, 2026. Owning the original alone gives you no Rogue Core seat. Look for a library entry for the spin-off or an offer that explicitly includes it. If your friends want to keep playing their established original-game missions, Rogue Core’s separate unlocks give them a different activity to start together.

Match the storefront as well as the title

For the original game, Ghost Ship documents a pairing that is easy to miss. The Xbox One version can play with the Microsoft Store version on Windows. The Steam version cannot join that group. Two people sitting at Windows PCs can therefore have the same title on screen and still be unable to meet in the same lobby. Get the storefront from each player before choosing another copy.

Keep that compatibility statement attached to the original game. If the invitation is for Rogue Core, use its own listing to check the intended platform and online mode. A Steam online co-op listing describes play for that product. It does not establish a connection to a friend’s console edition. For a mixed-device group, settle the exact pairing before spending money.

Agree on the title before the invite

A good invitation fits in one line. Send the full title, storefront and what the group plans to do. “Deep Rock Galactic on Steam, bring a Scout” points everyone to the original. “Rogue Core on Steam, starting a new run” gets the Reclaimers together. Save Survivor for the miner who wants an expedition of their own.
