In Final Fantasy Resonance, a Vision can leave skills behind
Changing your equipped companion does not erase every ability you have learned. The point limit is the important catch.
Yes. Xbox Wire's October 22 account says abilities unlocked through a character's Vision mastery can be equipped after a different Vision takes that slot, subject to a fixed point limit. Switching companions therefore does not mean abandoning every learned option. The active Vision and the learned ability pool are connected, but they are not the same thing.
That is the key answer for anyone reluctant to change a familiar companion. You can experiment without treating every swap as a total reset. The limit still matters: persistence expands the choices available to a character, but it does not mean every learned ability can be active at once. This explains the reported system, not a tested build recommendation.
One companion, more than one layer

Each party member can have one Vision assigned at a time. Xbox Wire describes Visions as echoes of earlier Final Fantasy characters found at shrines around the world. The equipped Vision grants access to its abilities and a special Resonance attack. PlayStation's account adds that a newly awakened Vision begins with passive benefits and combat options.
Battles add another layer. Fighting with a Vision raises mastery and unlocks further abilities. PlayStation describes mastery points coming from victories and gives examples of later bonuses and skills; Xbox Wire describes the resulting abilities as options that can remain available when a different Vision is equipped. The companion currently on screen and the collection a character has learned are therefore related, but not identical.
That distinction also separates Visions from Espers. PlayStation describes Espers as more traditional summons that join battle for a set number of turns. Visions instead reshape a party member's proficiencies, allowing the same base character to lean toward a specialist role or cover a different need.
Learn it, then budget for it

Mastery expands the pool, while the fixed point allowance constrains the loadout. Xbox Wire says unlocked abilities can be equipped with a different Vision, up to that limit. It also describes combining a character's base skills, the currently equipped Vision and other learned options. The system therefore rewards collecting choices and then making a smaller set of decisions for the situation in front of you.
Our takeaway is to begin with the role the party needs. A character may need to support healing, improve stagger pressure, supply damage or cover another gap. After choosing that job, inspect which learned abilities fit the allowance. Persistence is useful because it lets earlier mastery continue to matter; the point budget is useful because it prevents the learned collection from becoming one unrestricted pile.
The official accounts include examples of characters being paired with Visions to create specialists or all-rounders. Those examples explain the design, not a universal best party. We have not tested the numerical point cap, full ability list, damage values or late-game combinations. Treat the menu's current costs and descriptions as controlling for your own loadout.
Discovery, not random character pulls
Xbox Wire says Visions are found in shrines and characterizes this console RPG adaptation as removing the mobile original's randomness and monetization from the Vision system. PlayStation similarly describes encounters with crystal shrines that introduce returning heroes before awarding a combat companion. That makes discovery part of world exploration rather than a random character-pull loop.
The claim should stay narrow. It supports saying that Vision acquisition is not the former mobile gacha system. It does not, by itself, prove that every form of optional paid content is absent. This article is not a monetization audit, shrine route or checklist of all available companions.
Try a different Vision when its role answers a real party need, then inspect which learned abilities fit the point budget. The useful question is what the loadout needs, not simply which returning character you recognize. Reporting checked October 23, 2026.
Because each party member can equip only one Vision at a time, the swap itself remains meaningful even when learned abilities carry over. The equipped companion still shapes the active Resonance package, while mastery gives the character a bounded library of learned options. That is why changing Visions can alter a role without erasing every earlier investment.
