Can you use God Mode on your existing Hades save?
Keep the House you know. Here’s what changes when Zagreus takes a hit, and why one kind of save plays by different rules.
Yes. Load your existing normal save in the original Hades and turn on God Mode in Settings. You can keep playing the same story with the upgrades you’ve earned. Zagreus takes less damage immediately, and you can turn the option off on that same save. The exception is a file started in Hell Mode. Supergiant’s answer about existing saves
Keep your place in the House
If you remember the people in the House better than you remember an enemy’s windup, pick the save where those conversations happened. You don’t have to start a second Zagreus just to make the next fight more forgiving. Supergiant addressed precisely this worry when a player asked whether they could use God Mode while building up the Mirror, then switch back. The developer confirmed the setting can be toggled on a normal file without a penalty. Supergiant’s answer about existing saves
Open Settings after loading that file and look for God Mode. The choice belongs here. The new-game screen is where you would choose Hell Mode, which commits a new file to a harder set of rules. If the goal is to carry on from last time, stay on your current file. Supergiant’s update notes

What 20% resistance buys you
God Mode starts by reducing incoming damage by 20%. Consider a hit that would otherwise cost 50 health. With the initial reduction alone, that hit would cost 40. The ten health left over might buy time to spot the next attack. It won’t finish the encounter for you. That example illustrates the percentage with simple numbers, rather than predicting damage from a particular enemy. Supergiant’s answer about existing saves
With God Mode enabled, a death makes Zagreus a little more resistant on later attempts. The immediate benefit matters even if the wall you’ve hit is deep into a run. You can switch it on when you reach the encounter you want to practice, rather than replaying earlier chambers to qualify. Supergiant’s Hades FAQ Supergiant’s answer about existing saves

Decide when to turn it off
Pick a moment you want to learn. Maybe a room ends before you can see where the next projectile comes from. Keep God Mode on while you watch for that cue. When you can recognize it and want to feel the usual damage again, return to Settings and switch God Mode off. You can also leave it on and keep following the story. Either choice uses the same normal file. Supergiant’s answer about existing saves
If God Mode is missing, the useful question is how this save began. Supergiant explicitly excludes Hell Mode from the toggle. Choosing Hell Mode at the start is different from trying a damage assist halfway through an ordinary file. Hell Mode makes the Pact of Punishment mandatory from your first escape attempt. If you want to preserve a Hell Mode playthrough, leave its slot intact and use a separate normal file to play with the assist. Supergiant’s answer about existing saves Supergiant’s update notes
