You do not need to abandon a Stardew Valley farm to invite friends. The documented route is to add cabins for guests and open the save through Co-op. Starting fresh is a choice about sharing the beginning, not a universal multiplayer requirement. Decide whose farm will anchor the group before everyone commits to a new character.
Choose the host around the group's schedule
Stardew's multiplayer explanation describes one host and other players connecting to that farm. The host must be in the game for the group to play. If your plan is a weekly shared evening, pick a host who can reliably attend it.
Ask a practical question before discussing crops: would the group still want this arrangement if the host misses next week? If the answer is no, settle that expectation first. This guide does not promise an always-available server, automatic host migration or a way to combine several independent farms.

Check guest space and the way the save opens
The official troubleshooting guide calls for enough cabins for the connecting players. New farms can begin with cabins, while an existing farm can add them through Robin. Think of the cabin as a prerequisite for a guest, rather than evidence that an invitation has already succeeded.
The same guide distinguishes opening a save normally from starting it through Co-op and the Host tab. If friends cannot see the farm, verify that entry path before treating the save itself as the problem. On desktop, missing invite-code or invitation options can also mean the game cannot access the Steam or GOG account.

Match the actual edition, version and build
The 1.6 changelog raises the PC limit to eight players and requires a matching build number as well as version for joining. Older four-player instructions therefore should not be treated as a universal PC limit. Conversely, the PC change is not evidence that every console or mobile edition supports eight.
Write down the exact editions your group owns before planning the guest count. Then compare the version and build information, rather than assuming that a shared game title guarantees compatibility. This article does not establish unrestricted console-to-PC crossplay or substitute for the support instructions for your platform.

Treat mobile as its own decision
ConcernedApe documents an experimental multiplayer option for Android and iOS, excluding the Apple Arcade edition. It uses IP connections rather than farm discovery, and the guide identifies joining a PC-hosted farm over a local network as its ideal scenario.
That is a different proposition from sending a familiar storefront invite. The developer warns against using an important save without backing it up first. If the farm matters more than trying the experiment, resolve the backup and connection requirements before using it. This guide does not provide router changes, hidden-menu execution steps or a promise that a mobile session will remain connected.

Keep the existing farm when continuing that project is the shared goal. Start a new one when the group wants the first season to belong to everyone. In either case, agree on a reliable host, guest space, progression expectations and compatible editions before arranging the evening.
These are planning checks drawn from the official documentation reviewed on October 31, 2026. No multiplayer session was run for this guide. Save-file surgery, mod compatibility, network-security changes and host-transfer procedures are outside its scope.
