Nintendo's September announcement gives December 4 as the Switch 2 release date and says the edition includes the earlier title-update content. Its examples include the Grand Hub, Mizutsune, Lagiacrus and the Final Fantasy XIV Online collaboration. The separate Ascendance expansion is planned for Switch 2 in 2027. Nintendo announcement

That provides a starting content picture, not an exact regional unlock time or a promise about every future event. The base release and a later expansion also belong on different lines of a buying checklist. Joining friends is not the same as moving a save

Cross-platform multiplayer is confirmed in Nintendo's announcement. The store separately lists local wireless and online player counts. That is relevant to an existing group deciding whether someone on Switch 2 can join the wider multiplayer community. Nintendo announcement

The evidence reviewed here does not establish a cross-platform save-transfer route for your existing hunter, equipment or progress. Nintendo's Save Data Cloud listing should not be treated as that missing confirmation. A cloud-save feature and a supported transfer between different platform accounts answer different questions. If starting again would make the purchase unattractive, make explicit transfer documentation a requirement before buying. The Nintendo pages reviewed here do not describe a Switch 2 transfer route. We have not verified a current Capcom save-transfer policy for this edition.

Storage and online requirements are no longer blank spaces

The US product page estimates a 39.1 GB file size and lists Nintendo Switch Online features. Nintendo's announcement footnote says online play requires a Nintendo Account, Nintendo Switch Online membership and an internet connection. The word estimated matters. The store figure is not our measurement of a patched retail installation. Recheck it before committing storage, and use the final download screen when installing. Price belongs to the exact edition and checkout

Before purchase, check the live edition contents, final price and expansion terms on the official store. This distinction matters particularly for an existing owner: another platform release is not, by itself, evidence of a free upgrade or shared purchase entitlement. No such entitlement is established by the sources used here.

Portable performance still needs retail evidence

Nintendo lists TV, tabletop and handheld modes. Supported modes tell you how the software is intended to be used; they do not tell you the frame pacing, text readability during a hunt, load times or battery duration you will experience. Decide which question would change your buying decision. If small text is the concern, look for genuine handheld captures with readable menus. If long hunts away from power are the concern, look for a documented battery test with its settings. If smooth combat matters most, look for retail-build performance evidence. Make your own purchase threshold

For a first-time player, the confirmed date, included content and online requirements may be enough to start planning. For an existing player, the key unresolved requirement may be save continuity. For someone buying specifically for portable play, the missing evidence may be the handheld experience.

Write down that requirement and wait for evidence that addresses it directly. The useful conclusion is conditional: December's edition has documented features worth considering, but the best time to buy depends on which unanswered question matters to you.
