AZEROTH / LAUNCH WEEK
WoW: Forever is in your subscription. The name reservation is the extra.
November 3 is the last listed day to reserve a name early. The gates to Azeroth open the following day, including for players who skip the upgrade.
If you have an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, you can play WoW: Forever when it opens on November 4 at 3 p.m. Pacific, or 5 p.m. in Chicago. You do not need a Skyborne pack. The November 3 deadline in Blizzard’s announcement is for reserving a character name ahead of everyone else.

A name before launch, not a head start on levels
Imagine three friends who want to start together. One has kept a subscription running. Another has bought a Skyborne Heroic Pack. The third has neither. The subscriber can join on launch day without upgrading. The pack buyer gets a chance at a name before launch, but Heroic itself does not include the month of Game Time that comes with Epic. Check which account actually has time on it before the group makes plans.
Blizzard lists early reservation through November 3, without specifying a closing hour in its reservation notice. Eligible players can reserve up to three characters in total across rulesets. Two names on a PvP ruleset leave room for one more elsewhere. Reserving a name does not guarantee your first choice or let you start questing early.

What the upgrade actually buys
There is a reason to look at the edition details if you want to start as a Skyborne on Zephras Isle. Heroic includes that race and starting experience. Epic adds, among other extras, 30 days of Game Time beginning November 4. The Warcraft Forever Collection includes the Epic benefits and Warcraft III strategy content. If what you want is the journey through Azeroth with your existing subscription, none of those extras is an entry fee.

The friend without a subscription has another route
For a qualifying purchase, Heroic supplies one launch invitation; Epic and the Collection supply three each. An eligible friend can redeem a code on Battle.net to play Forever during Blizzard’s November 4 through November 11 window without buying Game Time. Gift purchases are excluded from the code offer. A code is a limited invitation, not the recipient’s own upgrade pack or a rolling week that starts whenever they log in.
For that third friend, the useful thing to ask for is an unused launch code, not a character name reserved on someone else’s account. Check the eligibility terms linked by Blizzard before promising a spot. To stay after the invitation window, plan on a subscription or Game Time.
