Loftia friends need the same server, but nobody has to move for good

At the cozy MMO’s Early Access opening, friends can pick a meeting place for one evening and still tend their own islands on their own time.

Meeting friends

Friends starting Loftia on November 3 need to agree on a server to see each other. They do not have to pick a permanent home together. Qloud Games says players can change servers to join friends, and someone who prefers to farm alone can still progress. The studio has set the Early Access opening for 1 p.m. Eastern, noon in Chicago.

Together: Choose the same server
Solo: Internet still required

Several characters follow a curving path between buildings and trees. — Characters share a city path in Qloud’s screenshot.

Pick a meeting place for tonight

Suppose you start at lunch and your friend signs in after work. According to Qloud’s server FAQ, being online in the same game is not enough: you need to be on the same server. Exchange the server you are using before you try to find each other on the island. If your friend picked a different one earlier, that choice does not commit the two of you to separate worlds.

One detail to settle before buying is the platform. The studio lists Steam and the Epic Games Store for the computer release, but calls cross-platform play a goal rather than a promise. The ability to change servers is not a guarantee that any pair of devices or storefronts can meet.

A shared project without a standing appointment

There are different scales of playing together here. For a quiet session, Qloud describes visiting an island to hang out. For something that belongs to the whole city, its Early Access overview describes community farms in the Hanging Gardens and a world project to rebuild the Loftia City Dome. Those are reasons to step out of your own garden without asking a friend to keep exactly the same hours as you.

The distinction matters if the word MMO makes you picture a group waiting for its last member. Qloud says playing solo does not block progress and that almost all content can be enjoyed that way. “Almost” leaves room for activities designed around other people; it is not a promise that every group challenge plays identically alone.

A wooden bridge leads to a cottage and planted beds on a small floating island. — A home island, shown in Qloud’s pre-release storefront gallery.

Alone on an island still means online

Someone looking for a quiet farming game can play by themselves. Someone looking for a game to play on a train without a connection should look elsewhere: Loftia requires internet access even in a solo session. That requirement is independent of whether anyone visits your island.

For the first evening, agree on a supported setup, pick the same server, then decide whether to visit a friend or head for a shared project. The Steam listing identifies this as Early Access. The announced opening is not a live server-status report.
