The ruined surface, in an official Redux update screenshot.
METRO Redux's next-gen update is out on Xbox Series X|S, but the practical details depend on your version. PLAION says most owners qualify for the free upgrade, with some versions potentially incompatible. Deep Silver also warns that saves from the Microsoft Store version will not transfer to the updated version.
Check which Metro is in your library
The Xbox Metro Redux Bundle contains Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. The separate Metro Saga Bundle also includes Metro Exodus and its listed expansions. The Redux announcement is not an Exodus upgrade announcement merely because the games share a franchise or a larger bundle.
PLAION's support FAQ is narrower than the early announcement: most owners qualify, but some versions may not be compatible. It directs players to their platform for confirmation. The FAQ also leaves Japan's availability unresolved and does not announce a Nintendo Switch update. Check the exact product and region before assuming that ownership guarantees access.

A 120fps option is not a result for every setup
The detailed Xbox patch notes identify upscaled 4K at 120fps specifically for Xbox Series X, with compatible display hardware required. That is more precise than the broad Series X|S wording in the launch feature.
Do not buy a display or plan around Series S offering the same mode. Equally, a listed 120fps mode is not a measurement of sustained performance. Console model, display support and tested frame-rate behaviour answer different questions; the announcement only settles the advertised feature scope.
Microsoft Store saves need a separate decision
Deep Silver's general note for updating the Microsoft Store version says saves will not carry over. It recommends starting a new game and says chapter select will have every chapter unlocked, with default equipment available when starting a chapter.
Chapter access is therefore not the same as preserving your exact checkpoint and inventory. If continuing a particular run matters, read that warning before updating and seek platform support if its application to your installation is unclear. We have not tested a migration or a workaround, and the note is not evidence that every other platform loses saves.

An enhancement, not a remake
4A Games describes texture, lighting, shadow, environmental-detail and animation improvements, alongside Xbox Impulse Trigger support. PLAION explicitly says this is neither a remake nor a remaster, and that it does not add ray tracing.
The official screenshots illustrate the update's presentation; they are not matched before-and-after measurements. The current Xbox bundle listing also includes Xbox One compatibility, but that label does not extend the Series-specific feature set to older hardware. Read the update notes for capabilities and the store page for product identity, rather than asking one page to prove both.
