THE SHORT ANSWER
Before organizing a Dragonwilds session, read the September 18 notice for patch 1.0.0.4. JagexDoom reports a fix for world saves becoming corrupted when exiting a game session. Missing or invisible worlds remain a separate investigation, with recovery requiring further testing. This is an attributed team report, not our test or a promise that every world is safe or recovered. September 18 patch notice
At our 20:06 UTC check on September 18, the notice also warned that Nintendo Switch 2 and Jagex Launcher temporarily lose cross-play while the patch is processed on their platforms. No staff completion reply was visible in the ten comments then available. Check the notice and its staff updates before arranging a mixed-platform session. Dated cross-play rollout notice
RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 is live, according to Jagex's September 15 launch notes, on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam, Epic and the Jagex Launcher. Cross-play is a release feature, subject to the dated platform interruption above. Xbox also lists the game as available from September 15 through Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass. For a group trying to start together, those announcements answer two different questions. The platform list tells you where the release exists. Cross-play tells you that supported players can share a session across platforms. Neither statement automatically grants a copy of the game to every friend or moves an existing save between accounts.

Use your purchased copy or check an eligible PC Game Pass entitlement. Jagex lists Steam, Epic and the Jagex Launcher among PC routes. The September 18 patch notice temporarily interrupts Jagex Launcher cross-play while its platform processes 1.0.0.4; no staff completion reply was visible at our 20:06 UTC check. Steam Early Access saves do not transfer to the new platforms. Keeping that character on Steam does not remove rollout restrictions for friends on other platforms.

What changed at 1.0
The September 18 notice for patch 1.0.0.4 supersedes the earlier investigation-only warning. JagexDoom says the team applied a fix for world saves becoming corrupted when exiting a session, alongside two crash fixes. That is a specific reported fix, not confirmation that every save issue has ended. Patch 1.0.0.4 notice
Missing or invisible worlds are described separately: the team is working with console platform teams and testing possible recovery for a future patch. No recovered-world guarantee, completion time or save-file workaround is established here. If you are returning to an existing world, check the latest notice before continuing. The September 17 post remains the historical account of the preceding investigation. Earlier September 17 investigation
Jagex's launch notes announce the Scorned Wilderness content, Regicide and the encounter with Kuldra. Its earlier pricing statement describes 1.0 as completing Kuldra's Saga while development continues, with monthly updates and a free Luminance update planned for winter. That is a launch milestone with further work ahead, not a promise that all future content is already available. Launch notes · Jagex pricing and content announcement
The practical distinction is between content you can plan around today and content on the future schedule. If your friends delayed starting until the first saga was complete, the publisher now says that milestone has arrived. If you are waiting for a particular future update, check its own release information before treating it as included in today's experience.

Mixed platforms: agree on the host and cross-play setting
The September 18 patch rollout temporarily interrupts cross-play on Nintendo Switch 2 and Jagex Launcher until their platform processing finishes. At the 20:06 UTC source check, no staff completion reply was visible. A PC label is not specific enough: ask whether that player uses the Jagex Launcher. Recheck the patch notice and staff comments before planning the session. Cross-play processing warning
Jagex says the host can choose cross-play when hosting a session. The launch notes describe cross-play worlds in the world browser, a dedicated-server option and invite codes. Those are the documented ways to organize access; this article does not claim to have completed a mixed-platform session. Jagex launch notes
Choose who will host before everyone starts searching. Then make sure the group is looking for the same world with the intended cross-play setting. That small planning step keeps a session question separate from a purchase question. A friend who cannot see the expected world needs the host and session details checked, not an automatic recommendation to buy another edition.
Jagex's June 2 console FAQ says Steam Early Access saves do not transfer to the new platforms. You can keep using your Steam character to play with friends on other platforms, but cross-play does not move that save to a console. The September 15 launch notes add cross-play controls without announcing a replacement save-transfer policy. This restriction describes the Steam Early Access route; it is not a blanket claim about every platform account combination. Jagex console FAQ
Subscribers: check the plan before the buy button
Xbox's September 15 announcement names Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass. The current Xbox product page says Premium and Ultimate include cloud access to the game, while Essential requires a game purchase for streaming. An Essential subscription on its own is therefore not the same offer as inclusion in the named library plans. Xbox announcement · Xbox product page
On PS5, Sony's September catalogue announcement includes Dragonwilds in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium from September 15. Check that entitlement before making a separate purchase; PlayStation Plus Essential is not the catalogue tier named in this announcement. The listing separately requires PS Plus for online play, which also matters if you buy the game outright. PlayStation catalogue announcement · PlayStation product listing
If you buy an Xbox copy outright, the Xbox listing separately requires Essential, Premium or Ultimate for online console multiplayer. Nintendo's UK listing also requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, a Nintendo Account and internet for online modes. These are online-access checks in addition to owning the game; confirm the terms for your region and platform. Xbox online requirements · Nintendo UK online requirements
Check the product screen under your own account and region. A subscription logo in a news story is less useful than confirmation that your plan and device are eligible. Also distinguish installing locally from streaming: these are different access routes, and this briefing does not promise network quality or cloud availability where you live.

Owners and new buyers: keep the purchase question narrow
Jagex's September 2 pricing announcement says the standard US price remains $29.99 at full release. This is an attributed publisher price statement, not a live sale, a stock claim or a guarantee of tax-inclusive checkout pricing in every region. Jagex pricing announcement
Existing owners should inspect their owned library and update path before making another purchase. New players should decide which platform they will actually use and then inspect that platform's current product listing. No deluxe edition, physical copy, accessory or extra storage purchase is recommended here. The important first decision is access to the base experience your group intends to share.
What this launch briefing cannot tell you
The publisher's release announcement establishes the release, platforms and documented features. It does not establish stable frame rates, readable handheld UI, reliable server connections or a successful save migration for your setup. We have no hands-on test evidence for those claims in this article. The 1.0.0.4 notice reports a particular corruption fix; it does not establish recovered missing worlds or completed processing on every platform.
If one of those questions determines whether you buy, keep it as a separate requirement. For example, a Steam Early Access owner buying specifically to move their existing save onto a console faces the documented transfer restriction. Someone buying for handheld play still needs evidence about the retail handheld experience. Cross-play does not settle either question.

Before the group meets
Check the latest patch notice and staff comments before starting or continuing a session. Confirm your world is available and check whether Switch 2 or Jagex Launcher processing affects anyone in the party. Then confirm access, name the host and agree on the cross-play setting. Existing owners should begin with their library; subscribers should begin with the eligible product screen. Patch notice and rollout updates
Access planning cannot establish whether your world is safe or recoverable. This snapshot was checked at 20:06 UTC on September 18. Refresh it when the team confirms platform processing, reports missing-world recovery guidance or changes the documented fix scope. The announced exit-session fix should not be stretched into a universal recovery or cross-play guarantee.
