Our take
Factory-recertified means the drive was returned, tested by Seagate, and resold — not that it is new stock in a plain box. Functionally it is the same ST2000DM008 mechanism at a lower price, and for bulk game storage where the data is re-downloadable that is usually a sensible trade.
The part that decides it is the warranty. The recertified term on this unit is six months against the multi-year term on retail stock, so this is the wrong drive for anything you are not backing up elsewhere. Use it as a games library, not as the only copy of anything.
