The opinion
Our take
The PULSE 3D is the headset Sony designed alongside the PS5, and that is both the reason to buy it and its limit. It pairs to a PS5 over Sony's own USB dongle with no setup, and the console's 3D audio processing is tuned for it, so positional audio works correctly out of the box rather than after an hour in a mixer app.
The trade-off is scope. The wireless link is tied to the supplied dongle, so it works on PS5, PS4 and a PC that can take the dongle, and it does not work wirelessly on an Xbox or a Switch dock. If you own more than one current console and want one headset for all of them, this is the wrong purchase and a multi-platform wireless headset is the right one.
